Bridges, Bread, and Beer Road Trip in Central Massachusetts

Looking for a fun adventure while waiting for spring to officially arrive? March is a great time for a covered bridge road trip or anytime really!

Take a trip to Gilbertville, a village of Hardwick, located in Central Massachusetts, where you will find the longest covered bridge in Massachusetts as well as one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, and craft beer too. And all of these spots are located less than a mile from each other.

Best days to take this road trip: Thursday-Saturday

The Ware-Hardwick Covered Bridge

Stop 1 - The Ware-Hardwick Covered Bridge

Your first stop on this roadtrip is the Ware-Hardwick Covered Bridge (also known as the Gilbertville Covered Bridge). Not only is this historic bridge beautiful, but it is also the longest covered bridge in Massachusetts. The bridge stands at 137 feet long and 25 feet wide, spanning the Ware River. This historic bridge was built in 1886 and while it has undergone several restorations over the years, it retains all of its charm.

Stop 2 - Rose 32 Bread

Your next stop is Rose 32 Bread, located just 0.5 miles down the road. You will find a wide selection of breads and sandwiches made on their homemade bread, pastries, and coffee beverages. I had a blueberry latte with oat milk and also tried their tuna melt special and loved both. The peanut butter cookies and lemon tartlet I got to go were equally amazing!

Hours: Open Thursday - Saturday (8-3 pm)

Stop 3 - Lost Towns Brewery

Finish out your visit with a stop by Lost Towns Brewery for a craft beer flight. This stop is only 0.1 miles away from Rose 32 Bread. They have a great selection of beer including my favorite, the Raspberry Barn Kat Kolsch, a German-style beer with raspberries. And if beer isn’t your thing, you can also enjoy a variety of other beverages including hard seltzer on tap. The brewery itself is located in what used to be a family-owned Polish market, Czabaj’s Market, back in the 1980s.

Hours: Open Thursday and Friday (3-8 pm), Saturday (12-8 pm), and Sunday (12-6 pm).
