A Winter Day Trip to Mystic, Connecticut

Mystic is a perfect coastal Connecticut day trip destination anytime of the year! Make sure to spend some time exploring both downtown Mystic as well as Olde Mistick Village, which is just a short drive away.

When you think of Mystic, CT one of the first things that may come to mind is the movie Mystic Pizza.  While much of the filming actually occurred in nearby towns, the movie’s plot centers around a pizza shop in Mystic, which you can visit today! Aside from pizza, this beautiful town has a number of other shops to explore as well as the largest maritime museum in the United States.

On your visit, make sure to spend some time walking across the Mystic River Bascule Bridge (aka the Mystic drawbridge) and taking in views of the beautiful Mystic River. For a sweet treat, be sure to stop at Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream located right next to the bridge.

Enjoy shopping on Main Street and pop into Bank Square Books for some new reading material.  This locally owned and operated bookstore even has its very own whale to greet you at the door. Next, stop into Mystic Pizza for one of their famous pies.

Grab a cold craft beer at Bank and Bridge, located in a beautiful old bank building. The brewery comes complete with its very own bank vault which you can even walk inside! The beer is excellent and so is the food. I chose the Truffle Honey Chicken Sandwich with goat cheese and blueberry pink peppercorn jam.  Absolutely delicious and extra saucy!

Head over to the Mystic Seaport Museum, the largest maritime museum in the United States which includes a collection of ships and nautical structures along with more than 60 historic buildings.

Next, head over to Olde Mistick Village, just a quick five minute drive away. You will find a collection of beautiful shops, restaurants and even a duck pond. Make sure to pick up some delicious donuts from Deviant Donuts as well! These donuts are so good that they do sell out, but you can pre-order your favorites for pick-up.
