A Relaxing Summer Getaway in Andover, Maine

Stony Brook Chalet - a perfect summer stay, that is also dog friendly!

We loved our stay at Stony Brook Chalet located in Andover, Maine. The chalet is a comfortable modern home located on 3 acres of land and surrounded by woods on three sides.

While feeling remote, the chalet is only 30 minutes away from popular destinations, like Sunday River Ski Resort and the beautiful Grafton Notch State Park. You will also find a couple breweries, restaurants and small shops located in Bethel, Maine which is about 30 minutes away.

We started each day with a hike on the property’s private trail located just behind the house. The half mile fern lined path takes you over two little bridges, and across a trickling stream. There is even a stone bench awaiting you along the trail - a nice spot to read a book.

After a morning hike, the deck is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee and listen to the sounds of nature. The outside space also offers a fire pit for evening s’mores and a grill for all the summer BBQs.

The inside of the chalet is open and modern, with comfortable couches in the living room space on the main floor. There is also a larger sofa setup and TV in the basement floor as well as a dining table and foosball table.

A full kitchen and beautiful open dining space are located on the first floor. The oversized kitchen table is incredible and would be perfect for families.

The chalet sleeps up to 9 people, with three bedrooms in the chalet. One bedroom is located on the first floor and features three twin beds. Two bedrooms are located on the second floor, one offering a queen bed and the other offering two queen beds. We slept on the second floor and we had the most peaceful night’s sleep. It was so quiet and the beds were super comfortable. My husband’s watch even confirmed that his sleep was much better at the chalet!

One of the most unique features we discovered while at the chalet was the fun treasure hunt game curated by the owners. The game starts with a locked treasure box and book that helps you locate puzzle pieces across the chalet and even out on the trail!

And one of the best features that makes this spot the perfect summer stay, is the amazing swimming hole located just a short walk down the road! Our pups loved it too!

While not at the chalet, a few spots we loved visiting nearby were:

  • Grafton Notch State Park (about 30 min away) – the drive up to the park provided amazing mountain views and we loved exploring Screw Auger Falls which features a 23-foot waterfall in a gorge.

  • Steam Mill Brewing (about 30 min away)– we sampled craft beers and enjoyed a fabulous lunch. The brewery has an incredible outside as well as plenty of seating inside.

  • Lovejoy Covered Bridge – it’s just a 10 min drive to this beautiful covered bridge. You can walk the bridge and even walk down to the water here.

Thanks for a great visit Stony Brook Chalet!
